SAMI TREKKING KEFALONIA
The area of Sami is a true paradise for ramblers. There is a variety of trails within walking distance the village. This means that these who wish to explore the area on foot will be spoilt of choice.
All you need is a pair of hikking shoes, a hat, sunglasses, a light rucksack for essential items like water and possitive attitude.
On the hill above the town, the excavations continue and bring to light many important discoveries. You will be able to see the ruins of an ancient castle (Paliokastro), the ancient Acropolis kyatis and the monastery of St.Fanenton where is located.
It is accessible from the road or walking on the marked path from which you will see the view of the magnificent blue of the Ionian Sea and the island of Odysseus, Ithaca.
The nearby village of Karavomylos is probably the most peaceful and beautiful place of the island, featuring an absolutely magnificent lake, with ducks and geese swimming beside the 'Old Mill'. The road connecting the two villages is amazing for walking about and let your self gaze at the stars during a late evening tour as you walk by the sea. The famous and 'must see' Mellisani Lake is a few meters above Karavomylos and is a jewel of nature.
